Highlight of my First Semester At IUPUI
A significant experience I’ve had at IUPUI during my first semester is joining Xiphos Corps. I’ve always wanted to dance in a group ever since I was little, but I didn’t have the resources for it. Now that I’ve joined, I’ve made so many new friends and although I’m very new to dance, I’ve learned a lot and realized I can do anything I can put my mind to. Another significant experience is volunteering for the MAC clinic. Working with these kids to improve their motor skills taught me how to interact with patients further into my career and apply the knowledge I learned in my Kinesiology classes to the MAC clinic.
What I learned about myself from these experiences is that I can be extremely persistent if I put my mind to it. Even though I get easily discouraged when I’m not great at something immediately, I was patient when it came to learning how to dance and how to interact with the MAC clinic kids and soon I was able to hone these skills and be able to learn more and develop in those areas.
A big lesson I learned is that being patient while learning something is crucial to growing as a person. I was very nervous joining Xiphos Corps because I didn’t know a thing about dance, but the people around me encouraged me to do better and I eventually got better at it and began to enjoy it a lot. I can apply this to the rest of my life to my future classes and career as well. There will be certain challenges in my academic and future career that I won’t be able to get or understand instantly, and being patient and hardworking will eventually lead me to becoming better at those subjects. A piece of advice I’d give myself next semester is to keep trying even when things don’t go your way.
Bridge Week
Bridge Week was the week before my freshman year had officially started. From 9am to 4pm every day, I was taught about how to prepare for my college experience. From studying habits to tips to destress to even a mock lecture, I was prepared to tackle my first semester of college. I even made some friends along the way!

Xiphos Corps
Recently, I have joined Xiphos Corps, a Dance Community at IUPUI, as an official member. Here, we practice open style dance and learn choreography created by IUPUI students! I made a lot of friends already and am going to compete in my first ever dance competition on 11/13/22!
I've always been captivated by dance since I was in elementary school. Seeing the dancers being able to perform so well and have so much movement and look powerful yet graceful in their moves had always moved me in a way. I wanted to be just like them. Now, I have this opportunity to learn dance and I've had so much fun thus far!

Regatta 2022
At IUPUI, there is an event called Regatta. At this event, there are food trucks, games, tents where you can get free IUPUI merchandise, performances, a dog show, and the main event: a boat race down the canal. I joined the Kinesiology Bridge team and we actually raced down the canal!
Working at the Campus Center
During my freshman year, I started working for the IUPUI Campus Center as an Operations Team Member at the very start of my first semester. During my job, I set up rooms for clients, clean and close down rooms, move tables and chairs around for complex set ups, and tend to a client's needs to best satisfy their Campus Center experience. Working here has taught me how to better communicate and display teamwork amongst my coworkers!
